  • Completing the Transformation: Body Contouring after Significant Weight Loss

Is There More to Your Weight Loss Story?

Whether you have achieved your weight loss through gastric bypass, laparoscopic gastric band, or diet and exercise alone, you may remain less than 100% happy with your body’s changes.

    1. “I have too much skin.”
    2. “I still have belly rolls.”
    3. “My arms and thighs are too floppy.”
    4. “My breasts are flat and droopy.”
    5. “My skin folds are constantly sweaty. The odor is bad.”
    6. “I get rashes and infections in the creases between the folds.”

While it may be simple to downsize your wardrobe, you need a highly qualified surgeon to help you tailor that large suit of skin to the “new you.”

Dr. Pickart specializes in the following body contouring options:

    • Circumferential Lower Body Lifts
The most frequently requested operation by weight loss patients, the circumferential lower body lift simultaneously treats…

      • the excess skin and fat of the tummy (just as a tummy tuck would)
      • the loose “six-pack” muscles
      • the fullness in the pubic region
      • the droopiness in the outer thighs
      • the lower back rolls
      • the flatness of the buttocks
    • Arm Lifts (Brachioplasties)
Brachioplasties, or arm lifts, tighten and rejuvenate flabby skin and fat that extends from the elbows, up the arms, across the armpits, and onto the chest wall. The result is a firmer, smoother arm with an athletic contour.
    • Inner Thigh Lifts (Thighplasties)
Thighplasties directly treat excess skin and fat of the inner thighs—from the knees to the groin. Although the procedure necessitates a long scar, satisfaction with inner thigh lifts is very high.
    • Breast Augmentations with Anchor-Shaped Lifts — for Women
Since 70 to 90% of the breast is actually fat, weight gain and loss will stretch and distort the breast. For women concerned about the resulting breast droopiness and flattening, breast lifts (using “anchor”-shaped incisions that resemble an inverted “T”) can remedy droopiness, and implants can counteract flattening and volume loss.
    • Breast Reductions — for Men
As a result of extreme weight loss, male patients frequently develop a redundancy of chest skin that looks like droopy breasts. When men are bothered by this condition, Dr. Pickart usually recommends excisional surgery. The result is an attractive, masculine contour and an improved self-image.

Dr. Pickart is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery—the only board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties to certify plastic surgeons. He has a special interest in the treatment of weight loss patients and has received additional training for circumferential lower body lifts, brachioplasties, thighplasties, and breast surgery.
